Modi govt mulling to bring national level blockchain framework

The Union government is mulling to bring a national level framework for the next-generation technology to be deployed across various sector. While replying to question in the Lok Sabha, the Union minister of state for electronics and IT said that an approach paper on National Level Blockchain Framework is being prepared.

In a written submission, the ministry of electronics and information technology () said, “Considering the potential of Blockchain Technology and the need for shared infrastructure for different use cases, an approach paper on National Level Blockchain Framework is being prepared…”

The minister also emphasised that blockchain technology as one of the important research areas having application potential in different domains such as governance, banking and finance, cyber security and so on.”

MeitY has been supporting use of blockchain technology in government organisations and research in this field. It has supported a multi institutional project titled Distributed Centre of Excellence in Blockchain Technology with The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), The Institute for Development & Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) and others as executing agencies.

The Center conducted research on the use of blockchain and developed proof-of-concept solutions. While the property registration blockchain solution has been developed and is being piloted at Shamshabad District, Telangana State, solutions are also being developed for enabling Cloud Security Assurance, C-KYC and trade finance. Dhotre said that Generic Blockchain based Proof-of Existence (PoE) framework is developed to enable PoE for digital artifacts, used to check the integrity of academic certificates, sale deed documents, MoU, among others.

“By using PoE framework, solution is developed to authenticate academic certificates. Blockchain Technology has also been used and PoC is developed for vehicle life cycle management and hotel registry management PoC.”

Some of the states like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have already experimented with the blockchain technology and states like Assam and Haryana are mulling to use it in areas such as land record management and drug controls, among others.

STMicro quarterly profit declines by 18.4% owing to slow demand

European chipmaker STMicroelectronics reported net revenues of $3.47 billion, marking an 18.4% decline compared to the same period last year. This downturn was particularly noticeable in the automotive and industrial sectors, although gains in personal electronics provided some balance.
