New Delhi — The IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has invited research abstracts showcasing the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare systems across the Global South.
The selected entries will be featured in a forthcoming publication titled Casebook on AI Health Use Cases Across the Global South, to be launched at the India–AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi next February.
The initiative aims to collect real-world examples of how AI has improved healthcare delivery, strengthened system efficiency or expanded access to medical services in developing nations.
Casebook to highlight practical AI in health systems
According to the organisers, the Casebook will serve as a reference guide for policymakers, researchers and innovators exploring responsible and scalable AI use in health contexts.
It will highlight how emerging technologies can be applied to address concrete challenges such as disease surveillance, diagnostics, data management and equitable access to care.
Officials said the publication seeks to focus on “replicable success stories” rather than pilot projects, with the objective of helping other nations adopt proven AI-based models.
It is expected to contribute to global efforts toward digital health transformation by documenting tested applications, deployment challenges and measurable impact.
The Casebook is being jointly developed by IndiaAI, MeitY’s flagship artificial intelligence initiative, and WHO’s Department of Digital Health and Innovation. Both agencies have previously worked on ethical frameworks and policy guidelines for AI in healthcare.
What is Global South?
The term Global South broadly refers to developing and emerging economies in regions such as Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific.
These countries often share common challenges in areas like public health, technology access and infrastructure.
By focusing on this group, the Casebook seeks to ensure that AI-driven healthcare solutions are inclusive and adapted to the realities of resource-limited settings rather than designed solely for high-income nations.
Researchers, innovators and institutions from across the Global South have been invited to submit abstracts of up to 250 words outlining successful, scalable and implementable AI use cases in healthcare by 31 October 2025.
Shortlisted contributors will be asked to develop full chapters of 2,500 to 3,000 words, detailing the AI solution, deployment process, ethical considerations, outcomes achieved and lessons learned.
The Casebook will be launched at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled for 19–20 February 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
