Uttar Pradesh banks on GeM portal, makes Rs 7,177 crore worth purchases in four years

The central government-run e-marketplace (GeM) portal has reported a major spike in departmental purchases from . According to the state government , purchases worth Rs 7,177 crore were made in the last four years through the government e-marketplace (GeM) portal.

As per the government data purchases worth Rs 602 crore were made in 2017-18 through the portal which went up to Rs 1,674 crore 2018-19. Also, departmental purchases through the portal further went up to Rs 2,401 crore in 2019-20.

“The use of GeM portal reflected transparency and eliminated human interface in purchases which naturally diminished chances of corruption. The government is committed to ending corruption. Our efforts are also being appreciated at the national level,” additional chief secretary (MSME) Navneet Sehgal said.

In the current year till December, the UP government made purchases worth Rs 2,500 crore taking the total purchases in four years to Rs 7,177 crore. Till December last year, 71,814 sellers were registered with GeM out of which 26,029 are .

Top state government official claim that the new purchase policy via GeM portal has helped the state in plugging massive corruption while ensuring transparency and improving procurement efficiency.
