The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) commemorated its 34th foundation day today, reporting software exports worth ₹10 lakh crore from registered units in FY2024-25. The government agency currently operates 67 centres across the country, including 59 in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
Arvind Kumar, Director General of STPI, said: “STPI started its journey with three centres when the IT industry was at a nascent stage. In 2024-25, the exports done by STPI registered units have reached more than ₹10 lakh crores.”
The organisation stated it has supported over 1,400 startups through its 24 Centres of Entrepreneurship (CoEs) and Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS). These startups have collectively raised ₹574 crore in funding, with 44% being women-led ventures.
STPI said it currently provides 17 lakh square feet of workspace for tech companies, including five Tier-3 data centres. Its facilities offer plug-and-play incubation spaces across Tier-I to Tier-III cities. The agency reported facilitating creation of 2,205 products and 1,086 intellectual property filings through its startup programmes.
The organisation has expanded its services to include vulnerability assessment and penetration testing for government and industry. Its SAYUJ startup network connects entrepreneurs with mentors and investors, while the Ananta cloud platform provides infrastructure and software services.
“Aligned with the mandate of the Government of India, STPI is working for the dispersal of the IT industry to Tier-II & Tier-III cities for inclusive growth,” Kumar added.
STPI was established in 1991 to promote software exports and now focuses on startup incubation, digital infrastructure and regional IT development. The organisation did not disclose year-on-year growth figures for its software exports or provide breakdowns by sector.
The announcement comes as India’s IT services exports grew 3.8% to $194 billion in FY2024 according to industry body Nasscom. The government has been pushing for greater technology adoption in smaller cities through its Digital India initiative.
STPI said its future priorities include strengthening the startup ecosystem and supporting electronics manufacturing through its cluster scheme. The organisation did not announce any new initiatives or funding commitments during the foundation day observance, however the top officials reiterated focus on Prime Minister Narendra Modi vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
