More than 6.32 crore people have registered on the government‘s MyGov citizen engagement platform, with consultations on the Union Budget, the National Education Policy and data protection rules among the most prominent policy discussions hosted in recent years.
The figures were disclosed by Jitin Prasada, Union minister of state for Electronics and Information Technology, in a written reply submitted to the Rajya Sabha on 24 July 2026. The platform, which allows citizens to participate in policy formulation through discussions, polls and surveys, has seen 4.48 crore new registrations in the past five years alone.
MyGov — a digital interface that lets citizens submit feedback on draft policies before they are finalised — has hosted 180 structured discussions since July 2021. Over 7.77 lakh citizens participated in these policy consultations, while 30.39 lakh responded to 15 polls and 3.57 lakh participated in 56 surveys conducted on the platform.
Key consultations
Recent consultations on the platform have covered significant policy areas affecting millions of Indians. These include the National Education Policy 2020, the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2022 and its subsequent draft rules released in 2025, and proposed amendments to the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance Rules 2020.
The platform also sought public input on reforms to the National Testing Agency’s examination process, the draft Data Centre Policy 2020, the draft New Textiles Policy 2020, and a memorandum for the 8th Central Pay Commission. Union Budget consultations have been a recurring feature.
Once consultations conclude, compiled suggestions are forwarded to the relevant ministries and departments. However, the government noted that final decisions on incorporating citizen feedback remain with the respective ministries.
Platform accessibility and language support
Third-party impact assessments conducted in 2017 and 2025 found that MyGov has expanded public participation through diverse engagement models. Based on these assessments, the platform introduced several accessibility improvements.
MyGov now supports 12 languages — English and 11 Indian regional languages — to address linguistic barriers that previously limited participation. A dedicated mobile application was launched to serve India’s large base of smartphone users who may not access desktop websites.
