Geological Survey of India to upgrade mobile application, add new features

Ministry of Mines said in a statement that the GSI app has been downloaded by thousands of individuals around the country and has received 4.5 stars in reviews and a rating of 3+ in the Google Play Store.

The (GSI) is expanding the functionality of its mobile app in order to raise awareness about its work. According to an official statement, the GSI will upgrade its mobile application to include additional features as part of its efforts to raise public knowledge about its work.

Since its launch on August 27 last year, the Ministry of Mines said in a statement that the app has been downloaded by thousands of individuals around the country and has received 4.5 stars in reviews and a rating of 3+ in Google Play Store.

The app, which is aligned with the government’s Digital India strategy, intends to bring GSI’s activities and accomplishments to a broader audience. The app’s objective is to also raise the student community’s attention to the subject of geology and its significance in nation-building, it stated.

“The Geological Survey of India…has decided to make itself accessible to the masses and make its presence felt digitally by launching the GSI mobile app (beta version) in the year 2020 and upgrading it periodically,” the announcement reads.

As of now, the mobile application is only available on the Android platform and can be downloaded through the Google Play Store.

The app is organised into many sections that discuss the heritage of GSI, the organisation’s internal publications, various case studies on the organisation’s varied purposes, and a photo gallery, among others.

The e-news section informs the public about the organization’s current developments in terms of and options, as well as the training opportunities accessible through GSI.

Additionally, it has numerous maps, films, and downloads of GSI work. The e-book part would provide the general public with an overview of GSI’s exploration efforts. Additionally, the app connects to GSI’s YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter pages.

This programme will be modified in the near future to support newer versions of Android and , and many additional functions will be included, said the ministry.
