Facing flack for deteriorating law and order situation in the state, the UP Police has decided to take the help of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve its efficiency. The state police chief launched TRINETRA, an AI based mobile application for Police personnel working on investigations, regular checks, verification and at the police checkpoints.
The newly launched application uses AI technology to digitizes and search records. The police personnel on the ground can use it to register or search for criminals via biometric features, such as images or videos.
“Technology is playing significant role in society. It is our aim to empower our police personnel working at the ground level with superior and easy-to-use technology. Use of technology like AI is a much-awaited and welcome change,” said UP Police DGP O P Singh.
TRINETRA is connected with the data from all the prisons, DCRBs, SCRB and CCTNS. The app carries records of around five lakh criminals that are active in different districts and parts of the state. In future, state is planning to use AI-powered phonetic search in the app, this will help police forces in search for criminals with better accuracy, even if the name is wrongly spelled in the database.
Once fully implemented, TRINERTA will reach 75 districts, 6 GRP (railways police), ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squads), and STF (Special task force) through android app.
For this project, the state government has roped in Gurgaon-based AI-startup Staqu. The company expertise in using AI-powered facial recognition, visual search, machine learning, and deep learning, and videos analytics technologies to help police nab the criminals. According to company executives, its Gang Identification Technology, not only identifies a criminal but also their associates active in different districts and part of the states.
“The launch of TRINETRA in Uttar Pradesh empowers the resilient and brave police forces working at ground zero with superior tech assistance, real-time data recall facilitated with facial recognition and other biometric identification,” said Atul Rai, CEO and Co-Founder of Staqu.
The company informed that in the next phase of the pilot, it intends to introduce vehicle search technology on the mobile app, along with enable search by voice samples through advanced AI-powered speaker identification technology. By that time, the app will also support fingerprint based identification and active geo-fencing of police personnel from command centre of TRINETRA, said the company.
