The Union IT ministry has issued a high severity warning for Chrome browser users and has warned against the arbitrary code on the targeted systems.

According to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) that reports to the Union IT ministry, the warning is issued for the users who are using the browser's version prior to 101.0.4951.64.

“Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in which can be exploited by someone to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system,” the CERT-In said.

The advisory further reveals that “these vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Use after free in Share sheet, Browser UI, Permission Prompts, Performance APIs, ANGLE, Sharing, Web UI Diagnostics; Inappropriate implementation in Web Contents and Heap Buffer overflow in V8 internationalization”

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code and access sensitive information on the targeted system. To avoid any swindling, the CERT-In wants Google Chrome users to update to version 101.0.4951.64. The mentioned version was rolled out by the tech giant earlier this week and it contains a number of fixes and improvements.

To know how to update your Chrome browser, you can follow these steps:

Open the Google Chrome browser on your device.
Tap on the three-dot icon.
Go to help.
Tap on About Google Chrome.
You will be able to see the version of your Chrome browser in the next window. If an update is available, will also be able to spot an update button.

How can focusing on human behaviour build a stronger cyber risk-aware culture

A risk-aware culture is critical to the development of a strong cybersecurity environment. We should build a risk culture among management and stakeholders as an added benefit or reward rather than a burden on the firm's personnel.
