Avaya launches hackathon for developer community in India

US communication firm Avaya launches the Avaya Hackathon which has been designed to inspire India’s developer community to build the next generation of communication-enabled applications to help businesses meet the challenges of the Digital Era.

“India is a country with a huge pool of talent, which needs the right platform to innovate and create sustainable ideas. With the Avaya Hackathon, we endeavor to provide the developers’ community with the opportunities & platform to transform and build more real-time communications-enabled applications that will accelerate digital transformation. It will be great to witness the insights these young minds will bring in as they strive to develop something unique solutions for redefining customer engagement in their specialized domain,” said Raman Adlakha, R&D Lead- Pune, Avaya.

According to Gartner, by the end of 2017, market demand for mobile app development services is expected to grow five times faster than internal IT organisations can deliver them. With 89% of companies now competing primarily on customer experience, IT executives need to overcome the skills gap and deliver initiatives at customer speed.

Avaya Hackathon will give teams of developers and enthusiasts from universities, colleges and corporations across India the opportunity to create the breakthrough ideas that will support India’s digital objectives. Each team will select a theme from those offered, focusing their efforts on solutions that can elevate users’ experience using the Avaya Breeze development platform.

The themes are: Hospitality – Enhancing guest experience in digitally enabled hotels; Healthcare – ensuring proper patient care in digitally enabled hospitals; Smart enterprise – Enabling employees in a smart and connected workspace; Smart City – Connected citizens in a connected city and open category.

The Avaya Hackathon allows each team to submit as many hacks as they like before their final hack is counted as their submission. Each team can include up to three participants. Teams will be awarded points based on generic criteria which will include Idea, Complexity, Creativity and Impact and usage of the Avaya communication features. The winning team will receive the first prize of Rs. 2,00,000 followed by second and third prize of Rs. 1,25,000 and Rs. 75,000 respectively.
