SSC CHSL 2017-18: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) which is a nodal Government of India organisation to conduct recruitment examinations for various vacancies in central government has last month started the process for accepting the online application for Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Examination, 2017. Every year, SSC conducts CHSL exam to shortlist candidates for the recruitment to various posts of postal assistant (PA), sorting assistant (SA), data entry operator (DEO), lower divisional clerk (LDC) and court clerk (CC).
As per the notification, the SSC CHSL 2017-18 application form is available from November 18, 2017 to the last date of registration – December 18, 2017. Since, this examination is divided in three parts – Tier 1, Tier 2 and typing/skill test, the SSC CHSL Tier-1 exam will be held from March 4 to March 26, 2018 and Tier 2 exam is scheduled to be conducted on July 8, 2018.
The candidates who pass the preliminary and main examination are called for the interview round. They also have to go through a skill test or typing test before being recommended for appointment. The minimum qualifications to appear in this exam is that a candidate should have passed Class 12th from recognised board. The candidate should be between 18 years and 27 years as on August 1, 2018. Age relaxation is given to candidates from reserved, ex-servicemen and people with special needs category.
For SSC CHSL 2018, pay scale has been revised. So, now Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) will come under a pay band of Rs. 5200-20200 with Grade Pay of Rs 1900 (pre-revised). Similarly, Postal Assistant (PA) / Sorting Assistant (SA) pay band will be Rs. 5200-20200 and Grade Pay will be Rs. 2400 (pre-revised). For Data Entry Operator (DEO), Pay Band has been fixed at Rs. 5200-20200 with Grade Pay of Rs. 2400 (pre-revised). Data Entry Operator, Grade ‘A' Pay Band is Rs. 5200-20200 with Grade Pay of Rs. 2400 (pre-revised).
Under SSC CHSL 2017-18, government tentatively aims to fill 898 vacancies for the posts of LDC/ JSA, 2359 of Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant and 2 DEO and there is no vacancy for Data Entry Operator under Grade ‘A'.

- Time limit for examination of Tier -I has been reduced from 120 minutes to 75 minutes.
- No changes in Tier III.

SSC CHSL Syllabus 2018
SSC CHSL Syllabus 2018 is divided in three parts – Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier- 3 which includes Interview/typing/skill test. All the tiers will have different syllabus and subject and patterns. Tier – I exam will be of computer based and only Objective Multiple Choice will be asked. There is negative marking in SSC CHSL 2018 Tier 1 Exam. Giving a wrong answer to a question will lead to a penalty of 0.5 marks in all sections. The exam duration is 100 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.
SSC CHSL Tier 2 Syllabus
SSC CHSL Tier 2 Syllabus: For the first time SSC has introduced a descriptive exam for CHSL. It is designed to test the written skills of the candidates in English or Hindi. As per notification, the paper in this section would comprise of writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/Application writing of approximately 150-200 words. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent. The performance in Tier II would be included for preparing merit.
- The exam is of 60 minutes' duration and carries 100 marks.
- The questions are based on 10 level.
- The exam is qualifying in nature.
- Part paper written in Hindi and Part in English will not be evaluated.
- The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped or suffer from cerebral palsy.
SSC CHSL Tier 3 Exam Syllabus
The SSC CHSL Tier 3 Exam Syllabus comprises of a couple of skill tests which are required for certain government posts and only candidates who fall for those posts will be asked to appear in this tier.
Skill Test for Data Entry Operator(DEO):
Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer. The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes .
Typing Test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant LDCs and Court Clerks:
- Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form.
- Typing Test will be of qualifying in nature.
- It will be administered on the Computer, to be provided by the Commission or any agency authorized by the Commission.
- Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute.
- Candidates opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute.
- The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
- Visually Handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 30 minutes.

SSC CHSL Application Fee
- The required application fee is Rs. 100
- Exemption: No fee is required to be paid by female, SC, ST, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen candidates
- Applications fee should be pay only through SBI either in the form of challan or through SBI Net Banking or any other bank Credit/Debit Card. Challan form will be generated online
- To pay fee in cash, candidate should take print out of challan generated online after the completion of Part-1 registration. Deposit the requisite fee in any branch of SBI and then continue with the Part-2 registration
- Those candidates who want to pay online can go directly to part-2 registration after completion of part-1 registration. Candidate must supply registration number and date of birth to continue to Part-2 registration
SSC CHSL 2018 Admit Card
Every candidate who registers for SSC CHSL Exam 2018 will be assigned an e-admit card/hall ticket/call letter that can be downloaded from the official website of SSC once the commission has released the admit card. The admit card for the CGL Tier-1 exam will be released first followed by the admit card of CGL Tier-2 exam. The candidates who qualify the Tier 1 exam will be allowed to appear in Tier 2 examinations.
