Staff Selection Commission (SSC) which is a nodal agency of government of India for the purpose of recruiting staff for various posts in different central ministries and departments has reduced the time limit of . According to SSC, now the Tier-1 SSC CGL Exam 2017 will be of 60 minutes only instead of 75 minutes.

According to reports, this is likely to impact the cut-off for the tier-1 exam which has seen rise in the cut-off in recent past but may see some moderation due to less time to candidate. The time duration of Tier-2 and Tier-3 exam will remains same and there is no change in SSC CGL Exam 2017 syllabus.

Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level Examination 2017 or SSC CGL Exam 2017 is conducted by every year for the recruitment of Grade- B and C categories posts in various ministries, departments and government organisations. The written test of this exam includes four tiers; Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4.

The selection procedure of SSC Graduate Level Exam 2017 is based on four stages known as tiers. Earlier the process included only two tiers (tier 1 & tier 2) along with final interviews. But in the year 2016, substantial changes were made to the SSC CGL Exam 2017 recruitment process. Government introduced tier 3 as descriptive paper and tier 4 as DEST/CPT in the recruitment procedure and detached the Interview phase.

Primarily, SSC CGL selection procedure will be based on the four phases  — Tier 1 (Preliminary) – Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type), Tier 2 (Mains) – Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type), Tier 3 (Descriptive Test) – Essay / Passage / Application / Letter Writing, Tier 4 (DEST/CPT) – Computer Proficiency Test / Data Entry Skill Test / Document Verification

The SSC CGL examination is held nationwide at various centres under the respective regional offices of the Commission and every year large number of candidates register for the exam. SSC has witnessed huge response from government job aspirants. The last day of registrations for the candidates was June 16, 2017.

SSC CGL new post

SSC has been following a trend of removing and introducing new posts in CGL Exam. In 2016, SSC had introduced a Gazetted post of Assistant Audit Office in Indian Audit and Accounts Department under CAG and this year, it has also introduced some new posts like Assistant Accounts Officer (Gazetted) in Indian Audit and Accounts Department under CAG with Grade Pay: Rs 4800, Assistant in Other Departments / Organizations, Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SIFO) Apart from the addition of these posts, SSC has removed the post of Compiler from this year's CGL posts.

SSC Exam Centers: New cities added

SSC has added seven new cities, to the list of center list. Here is the List of Cities, that are added as Examination Centers for SSC CGL 2017. Ahmadnagar (Maharashtra), Alibaug (Maharashtra), Bharatpur (Rajasthan), Behrampore (), Vijaywada (Andhra Pradesh), Warangal (Telangana), Nizamabad (Telangana).

Salary Hike for few posts

SSC has increased salary for few posts. There has been increase in Grade Pay and Overall Gross Salary. These are the posts, for which there is an increase in Salary from grade pay of 4200 to 4600.

Sub Inspector – CBI Department, Inspector of Posts-Dept. of posts, Inspector- Narcotics department.

Age limit increased for SSC CGL Exam 2017

SSC has fulfilled the long pending demand of SSC Aspirants candidates to increase the age limit. As per the revised Age Criteria, All the Group B posts having Pay Grade of Rs 4200 and Rs 4600 will have their Age Limit increased by 3 years.

SSC CGL posts are now open to all aspirants under age of 30 years. There are more than 20 posts for which upper limit is not exceeding 30 years and few posts are limited to Age group of  18 to 27 years or 20 to 27 years.

SSC CGL Interview – No Interview with Effect from 1st Jan 2016

The most important notification released officially from Staff Selection Commission is related to the CGL Tier 3 Process i.e. Interview Session. According to the notification released by official sources, it was announced that there will be no interview for government jobs from 1st January, 2016, for recruitments in Non-Interview Posts. Gazetted posts including D, C and B posts, where there is no requirement of personality test. This will also be applicable for SSC Graduate Level Non- Interview Posts.
