Business process management firm Firstsource Solutions has signed a memorandum of understanding with Monash University to collaborate on developing artificial intelligence (AI) applications and creating opportunities for student training in Australia.
Under the partnership, Firstsource and Monash will jointly work on AI research projects aimed at developing practical, scalable solutions for businesses and government agencies. The collaboration will focus on areas such as healthcare, energy and digital transformation.
The agreement also includes a plan for student engagement, with Monash providing structured internships, placements and live innovation projects at Firstsource. The initiative is intended to help develop local expertise in AI and digital technologies.
Ritesh Idnani, Managing Director and CEO of Firstsource, said the partnership sought to turn AI research into practical tools that address sectoral challenges while strengthening Australia’s technology capabilities. “It underscores our deeper, long-term commitment to Australia – to work alongside leading universities, government and industry to drive sustainable economic and talent outcomes,” he said.
Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and Senior Vice President at Monash University, said the university aimed to translate research into solutions with real-world impact through collaboration with industry.
Danny Pearson, Victoria’s Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs, said the state government supported Firstsource’s decision to establish its Australian headquarters in Melbourne. He said the company’s partnership with Monash would contribute to job creation and skills development in the state’s technology sector.
Firstsource, part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, expanded into Australia and New Zealand in 2024. The company said the Monash collaboration was part of its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the region and develop AI solutions through its relAI platform.
