Dhaka — An agreement has been signed between BTCL and Grameenphone to make the digital connection more dynamic and stronger across the country. Under the telecom services the agreement, Grameen Phone will share BTCL’s optical fiber connections and BTCL towers across the country.
The agreement was signed on a virtual platform on Monday in the presence of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mustafa Jabbar.
Speaking as the chief guest at the signing ceremony, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications described it as a historic milestone in building a digital Bangladesh.
He said Grameenphone would further, accelerate the progress of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary Digital Bangladesh program by providing better services to its customers by adopting BTCL’s optical fiber network and tower services across the country.
He further said that the father of the nation has sown the seeds of digital Bangladesh by establishing T&T board. The country-wide digital the infrastructure of the T&T (now BTCL) board created by Bangabandhu has turned around through the adoption and implementation of timely action plans.
Mustafa Jabbar, a pioneer in the development of digital technology highlighted the contribution of the telecommunication sector in keeping the lives of the people of the country afloat by providing high-speed internet services during the Corona period, adding that the country’s mobile operators along with government telecom companies have played an unforgettable role.
They have taken our instructions very seriously in expanding the Forge network across the country to ensure internet service to the grassroots people.
As a result, the first-class child of the grassroots is also getting the internet service he wants, taking classes online. From vegetable and fruit sellers to cattle sellers, he is enjoying the benefits of digital technology.
Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md. Afzal Hossain, Chairman of BTRC Shamsunder Sikder, Managing Director of BTCL Dr. Md. Rafiqul Matin and Grameenphone CEO Yasir Ajman spoke.
The speakers termed the agreement between BTCL and Grameenphone as historic and said that the mutual cooperation between the two major telecom companies at the public and private levels would benefit the customers.
They commented that it would make a significant contribution to the formation of Digital Bangladesh.
The Secretary for Posts and Telecommunications said that the agreement has multiplied the scope of work of the two organizations, adding that the agreement will make a fruitful contribution to improved telecom services.
