Bangladesh preparing to launch 5G this year: Telecom minister Mustafa Jabbar

Dhaka — The Posts and Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that has already completed all the preparations to enter the 5G era by 2021.

“5G is not just a high-speed digital connection, it’s the backbone of modern technology in the digital age,” he said.

“Using it in all areas of life; It will create a new era by revolutionizing agriculture and industry, which will be the next era of agriculture, industry and information age.”

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Huawei Career Congress 2021, Bangladesh’ on a virtual platform in Dhaka yesterday.

BTRC Chairman Shyamsunder Sikder, of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd. Scott W. Mine Han, Managing Director of Zhuang Zhuangjun Wind Space Consulting, ITU’s Asia Pacific Regional Regional Officer, spoke at the event.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said, “On the advice of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Communication Technology, we have completed all the preparations by setting a target of launching 5G by 21 years.”

Noting that the Digital Bangladesh program is exemplary to the world, he said that the continuation of the Digital Bangladesh program has brought about a groundbreaking change in the establishment of in the last 12 years. The people of the country have realized the need for a Digital Bangladesh program in the past. Due to this program, people’s lives have not stopped even in the global crisis. People’s demand for internet bandwidth has doubled compared to normal times.

He said the installation of optical fiber network connection in every union of the country is in the final stage. 98% of mobile networks have been brought under the 4G network.

He recalled with deep gratitude the cooperation of mobile operators including Huawei in implementing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina‘s vision of establishing Digital Bangladesh. Mustafa Jabbar said that the most important thing in the era of the fourth industrial revolution or digital industrial revolution is innovation, that the more you innovate, the more you will benefit.
