— About 1.5 crore mobile SIM users left Dhaka for Eid-ul-Azha holiday. Some 8 lakh of them returned to Dhaka on Thursday, the day after Eid. This means that a large number of people did not return to Dhaka or could not return. The 14-day strict lockdown, which the government is calling the “toughest lockdown”, began on Friday.

All factories except pharmaceutical, agricultural processing, and food and leather processing factories will be closed during the ban. Institutions other than emergency services cannot be opened.

The Posts and Telecommunications Minister on his verified Facebook page posted an account of customers of mobile operators who left Dhaka in eight days from July 15 to yesterday. It can be seen that 1 crore 4 lakh 94 thousand 683 left Dhaka in these eight days.

And 8 lakh 20 thousand 516 SIM holders returned to Dhaka on Thursday, the day after Eid-ul-Azha.

Note that a customer can have more than one SIM. As a result, the actual number of people cannot be understood without Dhaka.

However, according to GSMA, the global organization of mobile phone operators, the number of mobile connections in the country is more than 170 million.

Among them ‘unique users' are 54 %. This means that the number of actual mobile users in the country is a little over 90 million.

Considering the rate of ‘unique users' in terms of the number of SIMs leaving Dhaka, it can be said that about 56 lakh 70 thousand people have left Dhaka during the Eid holidays. About 4 lakh 43 thousand returned.

On the other hand, people and children who are not mobile phone users did not come.

This time, if strict restrictions are implemented, a large number of people will have to stay in the villages. Corona infections have been on the rise at the district level in recent times. It is becoming difficult to accommodate patients in district hospitals. Mortality is higher in rural and district hospitals.
