Bangladesh: MD of Destiny Group held zoom meeting from jail, govt removes 8 jail guards

The jail authorities have withdrawn eight jail guards for holding a zoom meeting of Rafiqul Amin, managing director of Destiny-2000 Limited, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Dhaka — The jail authorities have withdrawn eight jail guards for holding a meeting of , managing director of Destiny-2000 Limited, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Besides, a three-member investigation committee headed by Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (DIG-Prison) Touhidul Islam has been formed in the incident on Thursday.

The committee has been asked to submit a report within seven working days. Further action will be taken as per the report. Inspector General of Prisons (IG-Prison) Brigadier General Mominur Rahman Mamun confirmed the information to The Daily Star on Friday.

Mominur Rahman said Rafiqul was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) under the care of jails for various reasons including urology problems and diabetes.

There he has been accused of having online meetings on the zoom platform on several occasions and talking on .

When the information was spread last Wednesday, the jail authorities took steps to withdraw the inmates on duty at the hospital and form an investigation committee.

Mominur Rahman said Rafiqul was still admitted to BSMMU. “After receiving the investigation report, action will be taken against him in consultation with the doctors,” he said.

On July 31, 2012, the Anti- Commission filed two money laundering cases against Rafiqul Amin of Destiny Group. In the case, the court last year sentenced Rafiqul to three years in prison.
