Dhaka — The need for has increased in this time of corona pandemic. People are conducting various transactions while sitting at home. As a result, there is a huge increase in transactions every month.

Last May also saw a record number of transactions in mobile banking. The total transaction amount in that month was 71 thousand 247 crore taka. The average daily turnover is two thousand 298 crore taka.

The leap in mobile banking transactions in May was mainly due to the imposition of restrictions to prevent coronary infections and Eid-ul-Fitr.

The government has imposed restrictions across the country since last April as corona infections continue to rise in the second phase. Before Eid-ul-Fitr, the restrictions were relaxed and the shops were opened for a limited time.

However, long-distance transport was suspended until after Eid-ul-Fitr. As a result, the use of mobile banking in various financial transactions, including sending money to family members, increased.

It also increases the amount of transactions. Not only transactions, but also the number of customers in this service is increasing rapidly.

According to the people concerned, mobile banking is very popular with everyone due to the convenience of sending money instantly from one place to another, from city to village or from village to city.

Not only sending money, many new services are also available in mobile banking. Various services are being provided including payment of electricity, gas, water bills, payment of shopping bills, payment of salaries and allowances and remittances.

Due to these facilities, a revolutionary change has taken place in mobile banking services in the country.

According to the central bank report, a total of 15 banks are currently involved in mobile banking. At the end of May this year, the number of registered customers in mobile banking stood at 9 crores 81 lakh 31 thousand. Of these, five crores 86 lakh 42 thousand are rural customers.

The customer of the city is three crore 94 lakh 83 thousand. At this time the number of mobile banking agents stood at 10 lakh 86 thousand 671 people.

According to the report, 71,247 crore taka transactions were made in mobile banking during the month of May. The average daily turnover was 2,298 crore taka, which is the highest ever in a single month and daily transaction.

In the previous month of April, the transaction in mobile banking was 63 thousand 441 crore taka. And the daily transaction is two thousand 115 crore taka, which is the second-highest transaction in mobile banking so far as a single month.

And in July last year, the third-highest transaction in mobile banking was 62,999 crore taka. The daily turnover in that month was 2,031 crore taka. Besides, in May 2020, 47,376 crore taka was transacted in mobile banking. The daily turnover in that month was one thousand 535 crore taka.

According to the report, taka was deposited (cash in) in mobile banking services in May at 19,428 crore taka. And 19 thousand 173 crore taka is withdrawn (cash out). Due to Eid-ul-Fitr, shopping bills through mobile banking services have been paid the most in May.

According to the report, mobile banking customers paid 3,650 crore taka purchase bills in that month. The previous month's payment in April was 2,758 crore taka. At this time 21 thousand 251 crore taka was sent from another person's account using a mobile banking service.

In addition, in May, the salaries and allowances of the employees were paid two thousand 786 crore taka. One thousand 107 crore taka is paid for various services including gas-electricity-water.
