Buoyed by improvement in financial services and digital businesses, especially increase in investments in digitisation and automation both by government and enterprises, the Indian IT industry is expected to add around 2 lakh new jobs in 2018, said a recruitment company.
According to TeamLease Services, due to disruption in Telecom and IT industry, many firms were forced to consolidate operation and close their branches in 2017 but now they are either revamping or opening at other locations as per demands of market and hiring people with right mix of skill sets.
“As things are beginning to settle the hiring sentiments are expected to improve. The Indian IT industry is expected to add around 180,000 – 2 lakh new jobs in 2018,” said Alka Dhingra, General Manager, IT staffing, TeamLease Services. She attributed the reasons for the optimism to positive factors such as improvements in financial services and digital businesses, especially increase in investments in digitisation and automation and conducive investment climate resulting in business growth.
The staffing firm said that the uptick in hiring is also because of new businesses especially mobile manufacturing, Fintech and start-ups, as around 20 per cent more of them are likely to hire in 2018. These companies are looking to acquire candidates at both junior and mid-levels.
On the question of which skills will be in demand in 2018, TeamLease said that as industry moves away from traditional IT technologies like Java and Selenium to modern cloud-based applications & frameworks that offer scalability and inter-operability 2018 will see a huge demand for re-skilling.
“As India is heading towards Digital India, the industry requires 50 per cent more workforce equipped with digital skills. The growing opportunities in the digital technology arena including government initiatives like Digital India will add jobs in Digital technologies, AI, UX, and Robotics. In fact, Artificial intelligence (AI) alone will create 2.3 million jobs globally by 2020,” said Dhingra.
Some of the skills which will be in demand in 2018 are: User Experience; Machine Learning and AI technologies including Google Tensorflow, Apache Mahout, Python, R, Azure ML workbench and AWS; Machine Learning API frameworks like Lightbend, Akka, Anypoint; Cloud & DevOps skills like Dockers, Jenkins, Azure, AWS, Open Stack, Chef and Puppet; Robotic Process Automation frameworks to automate business processes like Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere, UiPath; Big Data & Analytics tools like Hadoop, Hortonworks, Cloudera, R, Python, Spark, Scala, MongoDb, Cassandra, SAS, Tableau, Clickview, Elastic.
