Chicago — Crosstown Fiber has expanded its network between Aurora and Chicago with a 45-mile underground fibre route aimed at improving the reliability and of regional communications infrastructure.

The company said the new route offers an alternative to existing fibre paths that have become vulnerable due to limited route options. These vulnerabilities have exposed businesses to the risk of network failures affecting their operations.

Crosstown Fiber, a United States-based fibre infrastructure developer, said the route connects 350 Cermak in downtown Chicago with 2905 Diehl Road in Aurora. It is designed to provide a fully independent path to reduce the impact of potential service disruptions on enterprises in the corridor.

Company officials said the new network will serve organisations that rely heavily on uninterrupted connectivity, such as financial services, healthcare and technology firms.

They added that the project responds to growing demand for redundancy, or the use of separate physical routes to prevent a single network failure from affecting all services.

The route, which runs entirely underground, is expected to support low-latency connections needed for time-sensitive applications such as computing and interconnection. Low latency refers to the minimal delay in transmitting data across a network.

The system expands the available fibre capacity in the region and is designed to keep operating during large-scale network incidents. The company executives said this will help maintain business continuity for users requiring high availability.

“This route eliminates a critical gap that has constrained regional business growth,” said Michael Underdown, President and , Crosstown Fiber.

“We’re already seeing strong pre-commitment interest from healthcare systems, financial services, and technology companies that require carrier-grade reliability for their mission-critical applications,” he added.

Crosstown Fiber’s leadership said early interest has come from sectors that depend on secure and constant data access. The firm has begun accepting new customer connections along the Aurora route.
