The world technology leaders are in deep shock over the killing of innocent people who were attending a live concert in Las Vegas on Sunday. In their messages shared on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, they have conveyed their deep sense of grief and prayers for the families whose loved ones were killed or injured.
The technology leaders such as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins, serial investor Chris Sacca and chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai among other have said that their prayers are with the families and loved ones who are grieving after one of the deadliest attack in America modern history, in which 58 people died and over 500 are injured.
“My heart & thoughts are with all the people, families & responders in Las Vegas impacted by this horrific & senseless violence,” Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella wrote on Twitter. While Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “Our hearts are with the victims in Las Vegas, their families and loved ones who are grieving this morning.”
“Shocked & deeply saddened by the terrible news out of #LasVegas. My thoughts & prayers are with the families & friends of those affected,” was the reaction of Ajit Pai, who chairs the Federal Communications Commission in Trump administration. “Once again, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and all those impacted by the #LasVegas tragedy,” said Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins.
Some of the technology leaders have out-poured their anger too. In a most scathing remarks on US gun laws which allow people to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, serial investor Chris Sacca wrote, “Dear GOP Members of Congress, F** your thoughts and prayers. Americans sick of gun deaths.”
On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg said “It‘s hard to imagine the loss from the shooting in Las Vegas. It’s hard to imagine why we don’t make it much harder for anyone to do this.”
During his presidency President Obama had tried to bring reforms to Second Amendment but the members of Congress under the influence of gun lobby did not allow him to do so. A furious Obama had accused members of Congress of caving to the gun lobby after his attempt fell at the first hurdle itself. Moderate Republicans and four Democrats had bowed to pressure from the National Rifle Association and blocked a bipartisan Senate amendment that would had expanded background checks for gun purchases to gun shows and online sales.
Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino whose 32nd floor was used by 64-year-old Stephen Paddock for unloading hundreds rounds of ammunition from a semi-automatic weapon towards concert-goers, is not only known for resort, casino or big concert, it is also popular for hosting tech firms signature events. Some of the big tech companies of the world organise their marque annual conferences at Mandalay Bay Convention Centre every year.
As per the latest updates, at least 58 people have died and over 500 are injured. Shooter Paddock was found dead when a SWAT team breached the hotel room. Police have also located a female “companion” to the shooter named Marilou Danley but she is no longer being sought out as a person of interest.
The death toll surpassed the number in Orlando, Florida in which 49 people were killed at the Pulse nightclub in June 2016.
