The Department of Justice will launch Nyaya Prabodh, a year-long legal awareness campaign aimed at strengthening citizens’ understanding of their constitutional and legal rights, at a regional workshop in Dharamshala on 15 June 2026.
The campaign, which translates to ‘Awakening to Justice’, will introduce three citizen-facing initiatives designed to make legal knowledge more accessible.
These include Know Your Rights in 90 seconds, a programme that explains legal rights and remedies in brief formats; Nyaya Quiz, an interactive platform to teach constitutional values and citizens’ rights with a focus on youth and students; and Pro Bono Pledge, which encourages advocates, law students and legal professionals to provide free legal services to underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society.
Tele-Law initiative at the centre of workshop
The workshop is part of the DISHA scheme — Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice — a central sector programme that funds legal aid and awareness initiatives across the country.
A key focus will be the Tele-Law initiative, which provides legal advice to rural citizens through video conferencing at Common Service Centres, the network of digital service points in villages.
The event will feature live interaction with Tele-Law panel lawyers, Village Level Entrepreneurs who operate Common Service Centres, and beneficiaries who have used the service. A documentary on beneficiary experiences will also be screened.
Himachal Pradesh National Law University will present its pro bono initiatives, with faculty and students sharing their experiences in community legal service.
Twelve years of justice sector reforms showcased
The workshop will include a Reforms Utsav segment showcasing developments in judicial infrastructure, digital transformation of courts, legal aid expansion, and legal literacy programmes undertaken by the Department of Justice over the past twelve years.
The Secretary, Department of Justice, will deliver the opening address outlining the department’s approach to making justice accessible and affordable.
Participants will include officials from the Himachal Pradesh High Court registry, the National and State Legal Services Authorities, the High Court Bar Association, representatives from the Ministry of Rural Development, and faculty from law institutions including Himachal Pradesh University Regional Centre, Himachal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Arni School of Law, and HPNLU. Virtual participation has been arranged for stakeholders across the country.
The workshop will be held at the Government Degree College Auditorium in Dharamshala, Kangra district, from 1pm onwards.
