- CometChat raises ₹56 crore from Run Ventures to expand AI-powered customer service tools
- Company has processed over 2 billion messages through its platform in the past year
- Funding targets healthcare and e-commerce sectors for AI customer engagement
CometChat, a company that provides in-app messaging tools used by businesses to communicate with customers, has raised ₹56 crore ($6.5 million) from existing investor Run Ventures to expand its artificial intelligence services. The funding announced on Tuesday takes the company’s total capital raised to ₹182 crore ($21.1 million).
The investment will be used to develop software that allows businesses to automate customer interactions through AI-powered assistants. These tools handle tasks such as answering queries, processing refunds and sending alerts without requiring human staff to intervene at every step.
CometChat, founded by Indians and headquartered in the United States, builds communication software that other companies embed within their own applications. Its services are used by businesses in sectors including healthcare, online retail and hospitality to manage customer conversations across channels such as websites, WhatsApp and SMS.
What the funding will support
The company said the capital would primarily go toward expanding what it calls its AI agent platform. This refers to software that can conduct conversations with customers, make decisions based on set rules and hand over complex queries to human staff when needed.
The platform includes three main features. The first is automated outreach, where the software monitors conditions such as product restocks or refund delays and contacts customers before they raise a complaint. The second is a visual tool that allows non-technical staff to coordinate multiple AI assistants working together. The third automatically learns customer preferences to personalise future interactions.
“The current fund raise is specifically done to accelerate our AI play,” Anuj Garg, co-founder and CEO of CometChat, said. “In the last 12 months, we have surpassed 2 billion messages sent through our platform.”
Garg added that the company would target high-transaction sectors. These include wellness, beauty, home services, online retail, hospitality and food service, where frequent customer contact directly affects revenue.
CometChat AI platform targets Indian businesses
The platform allows businesses to build and deploy AI assistants without writing code or hiring specialists in artificial intelligence. The company positions this as an alternative to traditional chatbots, which typically follow fixed scripts and cannot adapt to complex queries.
Brandon Tidwell, co-founder and general partner at Run Ventures, said the investment followed the company’s pilot programmes with enterprise customers. “We have witnessed how methodically Anuj and Anant have scaled the business to make CometChat an intelligent communication layer with several proven use cases,” Tidwell said. Anant Garg is the company’s other co-founder.
Run Ventures, based in the United States, focuses on early-stage technology investments. The firm had previously led CometChat’s ₹86 crore Series A funding round.
Company’s expansion plans
Over the next 12 to 18 months, CometChat said it would focus on three priorities. First, moving pilot customers to full production with expanded features. Second, building sales and customer support teams to handle large deployments. Third, establishing itself in healthcare and e-commerce, where the company believes AI-driven customer engagement has measurable business impact.
The company was included in Forbes’ 2026 list of the top 500 American startup employers.
CometChat competes with other communication platform providers including Twilio, Sendbird and Stream. The market for AI-powered customer service tools has grown as businesses seek to reduce costs while handling increasing volumes of customer queries.
The company did not disclose its current valuation or revenue figures. It said its core business was moving toward sustained profitability.
