Tata Communications has announced the integration of a new submarine cable system, TGN-IA2, into its global network. The cable, constructed by the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) consortium, is designed to enhance connectivity for businesses across Asia and other key regions.
The Asia Direct Cable (ADC) is a submarine communications cable system connecting key locations across Asia, including China, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It is a consortium-backed project involving multiple global telecommunications and technology companies, including Tata Communications, China Telecom, SoftBank, NTT and others.
The company stated that TGN-IA2 will provide scalable bandwidth and high-capacity data transfer across multiple routes. Enterprises, hyperscalers and service providers will be able to access diverse and resilient connectivity solutions for their Intra-Asia networks through a single provider.
Tata Communications said the new system will also integrate with its existing infrastructure, enabling connectivity from Asia to the US, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. The company highlighted that unlike traditional consortium-built systems, it will have independent control over end-to-end capacity upgrades on TGN-IA2, allowing for greater flexibility and faster provisioning.
The firm claimed that businesses using the network will benefit from improved latency, enhanced reliability and greater redundancy. The system is also expected to support data-intensive applications such as AI, data centre connectivity and high-definition streaming.
“At Tata Communications, we remain steadfast in our commitment to investing in cutting-edge subsea cable systems to meet our customers’ growing demands for scalable, diverse and high-performance connectivity solutions,” said Genius Wong, Executive Vice President – Core and Next-Gen Connectivity Services and Chief Technology Officer, Tata Communications.
“Whether you’re a cloud provider expanding into Asia, an MNC seeking low-latency connectivity across continents, or a digital business scaling globally, TGN-IA2 is a foundation for your future,” Wong said.
The company added that TGN-IA2 will interconnect seamlessly with its existing submarine cable system, TGN-IA (Tata Global Network Intra-Asia), offering customers additional network diversity. Sectors such as financial services, e-commerce and logistics, which rely on fast and secure data transit between Asia and global hubs, are expected to see improved performance.
Tata Communications’ latest move aligns with growing demand for robust digital infrastructure in Asia, where data consumption and cloud adoption continue to rise. The ADC consortium, which includes several global telecom and tech firms, has been expanding its undersea cable network to support increasing bandwidth requirements in the region.
Industry experts note that submarine cables remain critical for global internet traffic, carrying over 95% of international data. With the addition of TGN-IA2, Tata Communications aims to strengthen its position in the competitive connectivity market, catering to enterprises and hyperscalers expanding their digital operations.
The company did not disclose specific timelines for the full operational rollout of TGN-IA2 but confirmed that integration with its existing network is underway.
