Apple CEO Tim Cook made an unanticipated visit to Beijing, where he met with Vice Premier Ding Duexiang, reported Reuters. The meeting took place less than a month following the launch of Apple’s in China.

The competitive landscape is further layered by Beijing’s enhanced regulatory oversight concerning security issues, which has implications for foreign tech entities operating within China.

Market analysis reveals a challenge for Apple as the initial sales figures of iPhone 15 in China showed a 4.5% decline compared to the sales of iPhone 14 during a similar timeframe.

Moreover, regulatory tightening was evident when, in September, China implemented broader restrictions concerning the use of iPhones by its state employees. Certain central government agencies were instructed to halt the use of Apple handsets during official duties.
