Dhaka — The Information and Broadcasting Minister and Joint General Secretary of the Awami League Hassan Mahmood said action would be taken soon against the unregulated IP TV’s. The minister was responding to a question from reporters at his official residence in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
The Information Minister said, ‘Some IP TVs are often involved in spreading rumors, serving untrue information and engaging in hoaxes.”
Again, it is seen that before getting the approval, some people have opened offices like television channels, appointing district representatives. All these issues need to be brought under one regulation, he added.
Hasan said that good quality IP TV will be approved and those who have various complaints will be investigated and immediate action will be taken.
The broadcasting minister said the ministry had invited applications for registration from IP TVs. About five hundred applications have been submitted and they have been sorted out. Those with good quality will be registered.
Responding to a question from reporters about Helena Jahangir, an IPTV operator named Jayjatra, the Information Minister said, “It was not appropriate for such a person to enter the party’s sub-committee through a gap.”
They needed to be more careful about being on the committee. Those who recommended it also needed to know more. Action is being taken against him and we will look into the allegations about his IP TV. If it is found to be true, action will be taken.
The information minister later discussed various aspects of the country’s film industry with Sudipta Kumar Das, Chief Adviser to the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association and Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, eminent film director.
