Majety will take over from Sunder, who will transition out by October. “I will be directly overseeing the marketplace business with immediate effect,” Majety said in the email. “We have been discussing this for a while now, and over the course of the past few weeks, have been planning the way forward as well.”

Sunder joined the company three years ago after spending two decades at fast-moving consumer goods major Procter & Gamble as its managing director. He had been responsible for scaling Swiggy’s key businesses, including food delivery, and its foray into grocery.

“He played a role in expanding the geographical footprint of the marketplace business taking Swiggy beyond 500+ cities, and later rallied the organisation to drive a step-change in the unit economics of the marketplace business,” Majety wrote in the email.

Sunder played a key role in the company’s on-ground operations during the Covid-19 lockdown phases, he added. “.. among his other notable contributions, his thought leadership on strategic moves on the supply and operations has given the company a solid foundation on which we can endeavour to build meaningful differentiation in Rx and Dx ( restaurant experience and delivery partner experience) over the coming year,” Majety said.

Sunder led P&G’s business in the East, Equatorial Africa Region comprising Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Angola plus a few other countries.
