Bangladesh’s State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said that by 2021, 4,500 Union Parishads of the country will be covered under fiber-optic high-speed broadband connectivity

Dhaka — Bangladesh’s State Minister for has said that by 2021, 4,500 Union Parishads of the country will be covered under fiber-optic high-speed broadband connectivity.

The state minister was virtually speaking as the chief guest during the inauguration of the ‘Establishment of Union Level Broadband Connectivity’ project to establish broadband connectivity in areas deprived of facilities.

Palak also said that high-speed fiber optic cable connectivity has reached about 3800 unions in the country at present. Through the Connected Bangladesh project of the Department, high-speed internet connectivity will be extended to digital centers in 617 unions in remote areas and the construction of its core infrastructure will be completed this year.

The state minister said 1200 internet connections have been provided in the country through BTCL and 2600 through Union Fiber Optical under Bangladesh Computer Council’s Info 3 project.

21 unions in 13 Upazilas were connected online via zoom. Later, the state minister inaugurated the work of establishing broadband connectivity at the union level.
