Dhaka — Bangladesh‘s Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that 5G is not just a high-speed digital connection, it is the backbone of modern technology in the digital age.
Bangladesh has already completed all the preparations to enter the 5G era by 2021. It will create a new era by revolutionizing agriculture and industry. It will be the next era of agriculture, industry, and information age, he said over a virtual seminar on Thursday.
Even after missing three industrial revolutions in the agricultural age, we are building it to lead in the digital age. We are working towards that goal.
The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the Huawei Career Congress 2021, Bangladesh organized by Huawei on a virtual platform in Dhaka. BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited, Scott W. Mine Han, Managing Director of Zhuang Zhangjun Wind Space Consulting, and Amir Riaz, ITU Regional Office for the Asia Pacific, spoke on the occasion.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, while praising Huawei’s cooperation in completing 5G tests in the country in 2018, said it was a very big experience for us. Following this, on the advice of Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Communication Technology, we have completed all the preparations by setting a target of launching 5G within 21 years.
Referring to the Digital Bangladesh Program as a program to be emulated by the world, he said that in the last 12 years, Bangladesh has made a groundbreaking change in the establishment of digital connectivity in the continuity of the Digital Bangladesh program.
The people of the country have realized the need for a Digital Bangladesh program in the past. Due to this program, the life journey of the people has not stopped even in the global crisis. People’s demand for internet bandwidth has doubled compared to normal times.
He said the installation of optical fiber network connection in every union of the country is in the final stage. 98% of mobile networks have been brought under 4G network.
He recalled with deep gratitude the cooperation of mobile operators including Huawei in implementing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina‘s vision of establishing Digital Bangladesh.
Mustafa Jabbar, a pioneer in the development of computer technology in the country, said that the most important thing in the age of the fourth Industrial Revolution or the digital industrial revolution is innovation, which will benefit as much as innovation. He assured all possible cooperation in innovation and its implementation. The speakers highlighted various aspects of technology challenges and possibilities.
