UPTET 2019 new exam date is January 8

The much awaited teacher’s eligibility test, popularly known as will be held on January 8. The UPTET 2019 exam which was supposed to be conducted on December 22, 2019, was postponed due to widespread protest by students and civil society groups against central Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

To ensure smooth conduct of UPTET 2019 and deal with the shortage of examination centres, the state government has asked all the degree colleges to announce holiday on January 8, said a government order.

“Holiday has been announced in all the degree colleges coming under the department in view of the UPTET 2019, scheduled on January 8,” said Amit Bhardwaj, joint secretary, state higher education department.

Due to anti-CAA protest, state government has shut down internet services in many districts leading to candidates unable to download their admit card and hence state has to postpone the exam.

The exam was postponed as candidates were not able to download the admit card due to internet ban but with the restoration of services, is expected that applicants would complete all the formalities within next few days, said Director General, school education, Vijay Kiran Anand.

According to various reports, as many as 16.34 lakh candidates have registered for appearing in UPTET 2019. A total of 10,68,912 applicants registered for taking the primary test are eligible for teaching in the state government-run schools upto class V. About 5,65,337 candidates have registered to appear in upper primary level exams (class VI to VIII).

Every Uttar Pradesh xamination regulatory authority (ERA) holds the qualifying exam for recruiting teachers in government primary and upper primary schools. One must score minimum of 60% to clear the exam. This means that out of 150 marks, one must score 90 marks to qualify the exam. Candidates who qualify the exam will be awarded the UPTET Eligibility Certificate. It is valid for 5 years.
