Eyes on SMBs in India, Dell EMC launches data storage arrays PowerVault ME4 Series

With the aim to focus on growing Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs), Dell EMC has launched the Dell EMC PowerVault ME4 Series, an entry-level data storage arrays. The company said that has an install base of more than 400,000 PowerVault units worldwide and its newly launched product would help SMBs meet their storage need under budget. The new PowerVault ME4 Series family promise to deliver significant increases over previous Dell EMC entry systems in capacity, performance, simplicity and features.

The American technology firm asserted that SMBs have similar needs as the larger enterprises but they have to meet those requirements in a smaller budget and fewer IT support staff. “Balancing price and performance is a reality for SMBs, along with selecting storage solutions that are simple to use and manage. We designed the PowerVault ME4 Series to meet these needs by offering a feature-rich, yet affordable storage array that is easy to install and use,” said Dell EMC.

“The new PowerVault ME4 Series is a key part of that strategy at the entry level, designed for customers looking for an affordable, yet fully featured storage array that’s optimized for SAN and DAS virtualized workloads, said Niladri Saha, GM – Modern Infrastructure, Dell EMC.

The tech giant said that it built the PowerVault ME4 Series with 75% more drives to increase raw storage capacity by 122%, while also boosting read IOPS performance by 4X. “It is ideal for a wide range of block-based storage use cases such as video surveillance, HPC, virtualization/VDI, entry SAN, low cost consolidation, video editing, NoSQL databases, direct attached and OEM solutions,” said the company.

The Texas-headquartered firm said that the array was customer-installable in 15 minutes and takes just 15 more minutes to configure and begin storing data as either hybrid or . “Managing the PowerVault ME4 Series is made easy with a new HTML5 user interface, enabling customers to use a web browser from anywhere to handle common management tasks such as configuring and managing storage profiles and connections, responding to alerts and more,” said the company.

PowerVault ME4 Series storage controller is powered by a dual-core Broadwell processor. Each array supports multiple protocols including Fibre Channel, iSCSI (and SFP+) and SAS host connectivity.
