India has the 6th most extensive Netflix libraries in the world

According to a report from comparison website Finder India, out of the 73 countries, Netflix content library it analysed, India has the sixth highest number of films and TV shows available in Netflix content library, at 4,706 in total.

Popular online streaming service Netflix which even after completing two-and-half years in India is yet to make a serious impact and initially faced the challenge of not having enough content compared to its inventory in the US seems to be improving its India’s tally at least from a content point of view. According to a report from comparison website Finder India, out of the 73 countries, Netflix content library analysed, India has the sixth highest number of films and TV shows available in Netflix content library, at 4,706 in total.

In comparison, Japan has the largest library at 6,032 titles with 28% more than India, while Indonesia has the smallest (1,586 titles). For TV shows alone, India drops down to eighth place, with 1,364 shows on offer. This is better than 89% of the countries analysed. Netflix US has the most shows with 246 more than India.

As for films, Japan once again has the largest selection having 42% more than India, with 3,342 movies and sitting at the sixth place. India sits just behind Ireland, the , , the US, and Japan. This means that 92% of analysed Netflix countries have a smaller film selection than India. The smallest film library goes to Indonesia at 1,305.

“With such a competitive industry in India, we’re not surprised to see Netflix trying to step up with more content for viewers here. However, we are still behind Japan and the US in terms of the sheer number of content, so it would be good to see Netflix taking it even further,” said Finder India’s co-founder and CEO, Fred Schebesta.

“When Netflix first launched in India in 2016, it was the first major streaming subscription service there. Now, Netflix is facing a bit more competition – Hotstar and Amazon are both offering TV streaming at more competitive prices. With this in mind, it’s good to see Netflix have expanded their library to rank sixth place out of the countries we analysed,” Schebesta added.
