170 million people benefited from Digital Bangladesh initiatives: IT Minister Palak

Dhaka — The state minister for Information and Communication Technology () has said that about 170 million people in the country are currently benefiting from the ‘Digital Bangladesh' theme.

He said: “38 lakh files have been executed through e-files in the last 15 months during the Coronavirus epidemic. This has reduced the distance of red ribbon as well as ensured transparency, speed, and accountability of administrative work”.

“The state minister further said that a total of 39.6 million people has availed services from National Helpline 333 in the last four years. In addition to emergency food assistance, 4 million people in the country have sought medical advice through the doctor's pool of the ICT Department in the last 15 months while maintaining a physical distance.”

Natore-2 MP Alhaj Mohammad, among others, spoke on the occasion. Shafiqul Islam Shimul, Natore Sadar Upazila Chairman. Dr. Shariful Islam, former Chief Adviser of North Bengal Foundation USA Inc. Nasir Ali Khan Paul, President of North Bengal Foundation USA Inc. Abdul Latif, Abdur Rahim Hawlader, Acting President of Bangladesh Society Inc.

He said the worthy son of Bangabandhu's worthy grandson set up the first emergency call center in Bangladesh on December 12, 2017. Just as in the United States, the police, fire service, an ambulance can be found quickly by calling 911 in case of emergency, so when 17 crore people in our country call 999, the police fire service, the ambulance arrives quickly. In just four years, about 2 crores 96 lakh people have received this service.

“We were a low-income country even 12 years ago,” Palak said. But with the foresight, talent, courage, and honesty of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh's per capita income has risen to2,227 and almost all administrative activities have been taken up in the digital file management system.

Mentioning that e-commerce has become very strong in commercial activities in the country, the state minister said people of Bangladesh like the United States are able to shop online.

He said that in the last 15 months, judicial cases have been executed in virtual courts out of which about 120,000 have been granted bail.

Observing that the government has provided food to about 1.5 crore households during the epidemic, he said 86 lakh jobless families have been sent Tk 2,500 to the right people through the ICT department's central aid management software system through mobile financial digital wallets.
