Man killed wife for using TikTok and Likee apps

In Bangladesh southern district Bagerhat, a housewife has been killed by her husband for allegedly posting content over TikTok and Likee apps

Dhaka — In southern district Bagerhat, a student named Soma Akhter (18) and a housewife has been killed for allegedly posting content over and apps.

Soma Akhter was strangled to death by her husband Abdullah Al Naeem alias Shanto (23) for posting offensive pictures over these apps. The incident took place in the Dashani Uttarpara area of Bagerhat town around 9:30 pm on Saturday.

After killing his wife, Abdullah Al Naim alias Shanto went to Bagerhat Model Police Station in the middle of the night and surrendered. Meanwhile, an autopsy of the body was completed at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Soma Akter, daughter of Abdul Karim Box of Singrai village under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. She was a first-year undergraduate (honors) student in the English department at Bagerhat Government PC College.

Soma's husband Abdullah Al Naim alias Shanto Dashani, who surrendered to the police station, is the son of Golam Mohammad of the Uttarpara area. He works in a buying house in Dhaka. Naim and Soma were married in 2019 through a love affair.

Citing Abdullah Al Naim alias Shantar, police said Soma had an account on Likee apps and various . Soma used to post offensive pictures on those accounts. She had a problem with her husband.

In the evening, the husband has killed her Soma by hanging her with a scarf. Naim's parents were in Dhaka so there were only two of them at home. Naim also complained to the police that Soma was addicted to an extramarital affair.

Soma's brother Russell said, “Naim was unemployed. My sister was not allowed to eat or study. There was trouble in the family with all these. This can also lead to murder.”

Bagerhat Model Police Station OC KM Azizul Islam said, “We recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue.”

The killer Abdullah Al Naim alias Shanto is in our custody. He confessed to the murder and informed the police about the reason. We are still investigating whether there is any other issue involved in the murder.
