Google hosted 1 trillion minutes of video calls in 2020

With the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the world and becoming a new normal, and hosted over one trillion minutes of video calls across the globe in 2020.

The company said in a post that with a Gmail account, meet calls are unlimited through March 31, 2021, so that families can enjoy holiday traditions without interruptions.

Google this year had added a Meet tab in Gmail that allows people to jump from an email to a video call just with the help of a click.

Dave Citron, Director – Product Management, Google Duo and Google Meet as saying that the company has brought Meet to Nest Hub Max and Chromecast to help people get up, move around, and have hands-free calls at home.

According to Citron, Google Meet and Google Duo were built with an emphasis on privacy and security, to keep one's calls and meetings safe, and information private”.

In April and May 2020, when the pandemic was at the peak, three million users were being added via Google Meet teleconferencing in a day.
