Sumit Deb begins new journey as CMD of NMDC

Senior PSU leader Sumit Deb has assumed charge as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NMDC Limited. He succeeds N. Baijendra Kumar who has superannuated from the services of the govenment’s Navratna company on July 31. Before this elevation, Deb was Director (Personnel) at NDMC.

“I have had the privilege to serve at various capacities in many wonderful organisations but #NMDC will always be special for me, it’s where I could make the most difference & incredibly proud of what I and my team could achieve. Thank you to all 5700+ real metals to support me,” tweeted outgoing chief Kumar.

Deb joined NMDC as General Manager (Commercial) in 2015, later he was promoted as Executive Director (Personnel & Administration) at NMDC. In 2019 he assumed charge as Director (Personnel) and was heading various functions of Personnel & Admin, Human Resource Development, Law, Corporate Communications, CSR, Rajbhasha and has given a new dimension to India’s largest iron ore producer’s vision & objectives.

Deb is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneshwar. Prior to NMDC, he was with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL). He joined as a Management Trainee and worked with RINL for about 25 years accumulating rich and diverse experience in the steel industry. He has worked in different regions of the country, dealing with heterogeneous mix of both external as well as internal customers and handling the domains of HR, marketing & distribution.

He has diverse experience in man power & succession planning, training & development and other HR functions. He also has experience in the marketing and distribution of steel & iron ore, sponge iron, pellets and diamonds.

“I was fortunate enough to be part of this dynamic & vibrant company which is on the growth path by diversifying into manufacturing and also expanding its horizons into other minerals like coal, gold, etc. I am sure that under chairmanship of Sumit Deb, NMDC will definitely grow exponentially,” said the outgoing chief Kumar.
