Senior PSU leader Somnath Nandi now Director (Technical), NMDC

National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), the country’s largest iron ore producing Navratna company said that senior PSU leader has been appointed as the Director (Technical).

In this role, Nandi will be responsible for providing technical leadership and spearhead company’s journey towards making ‘digital first’ PSU. He will also support NMDC team and take up the challenges of the organisation’s expansion and diversification plans.

Nandi who took over on Friday has huge experience in strategic management and technical expertise and that is likely to enhance implementation of NMDC’s growth plans.

He previously served as Executive Director, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) with an experience of more than 36 years in the steel industry. After completing his graduation in Mechanical Engineering, he joined SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant as management trainee in the year 1984. He worked in the areas of coke ovens, field machinery maintenance, power and blowing station, etc.

Nandi has rich experience at senior levels as General Manager and Executive Director and was closely involved with the intricacies of integrated steel plant operations at Steel Plant and commissioning and stabilizing of IISCO Steel Plant.

Prior to joining NMDC he was Executive Director, heading environment management division and growth division at SAIL, Kolkata.

Nandi is known for his contribution to the steel industry in the manufacturing, engineering, operations, planning and strategy and he is also a vivid speaker in various industry forums. His rich experience and knowledge along with technical expertise would definitely help NMDC to scale new heights of technical excellence, the corporation said.
