With growing adoption of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning and virtual reality among others, there has been shift in the skills sets needed for high paid IT and Software jobs across the globe.

With growing adoption of emerging technologies like , machine learning and virtual reality among others, there has been shift in the skills sets needed for high paid across the globe. So, simple knowledge of Java or other programming language may not be sufficient to get the top IT and Software jobs any more.

Recently, the research and consulting firm EY said that as many as 20-25% of the existing jobs in BFSI sector is facing existential threat and they may not be there by 2022 due to rapid adoption of emerging technologies like robotics, blockchain and automation. Traditional jobs such as data entry operator, data verification personnel, teller, cashier and underwriter may not see the lights of 2022, instead the BFSI sector would look for newer experts such as cyber security specialist, credit analyst, robot programmer, blockchain architect and process modeler expert.

Recurring the same thoughts, IT industry body, CompTIA India said that implementation of new cutting-edge technology is moving out from a drawing board stage to being practiced by organisations across the world. Because of this IT roles and skills are undergoing radical shifts and this will affect the tech job scenario going forward.

“In-demand IT roles have started to shift towards including positions focused on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and the Internet of Things (IoT) along with exciting positions within cybersecurity, cloud computing and network technology,” said Pradipto Chakrabarty, Regional Director, CompTIA India.

Agreeing with Chakrabarty, Alka Dhingra, General Manager, IT staffing, TeamLease Services said that as industry moves away from traditional IT technologies like Java and Selenium to modern cloud-based applications & frameworks that offer scalability and inter-operability 2018 will see a huge demand for re-skilling.

Some of the skills which will be in demand in 2018 are – User Experience; Machine Learning and AI technologies including Google Tensorflow, Apache Mahout, Python, R, Azure ML workbench and AWS; Machine Learning API frameworks like Lightbend, Akka, Anypoint; Cloud & DevOps skills like Dockers, Jenkins, Azure, AWS, Open Stack, Chef and Puppet; Robotic Process Automation frameworks to automate business processes like Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere, UiPath; Big Data & Analytics tools like Hadoop, Hortonworks, Cloudera, R, Python, Spark, Scala, MongoDb, Cassandra, SAS, Tableau, Clickview, Elastic.

Today or tomorrow these emerging technologies will start showing visible impact on the business and no countries including India has more time to pick up with it, feels expert like Anurag Malik, Partner – People & Organization, Advisory Services, EY. He said “India has a time window of 2 to 3 years before the effects of disruptive technologies like AI, internet of things, machine learning, and analytics among others begin to have an impact on business and society. The skill gap between the products of the education system and the requirements at the workplace is high.”
