Ending the interconnect usage charges (IUC) for all domestic voice calls, Jio has made calls absolutely free from today onwards. Keeping the directions of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), in mind, the Bill and Keep regime is now being implemented in the country, a statement released by Reliance Jio has said. Jio had committed to revert off-net domestic voice-call charges to zero from January 1, 2021. In September 2019, TRAI had extended the timeline for implementation of the Bill & Keep regime beyond January 1, 2020. As a result, Jio was left with no option but to start charging its customers for off-net voice calls at a rate exactly equivalent to the applicable IUC charge. While doing so, the company had assured that this charge would continue only till the time TRAI abolishes IUC charges.
