Nokia partners with Lightstorm for WDM optical network expansion in India

Nokia partners with Lightstorm to expand optical network in India's east and north regions, providing WDM optical line system solutions for enhanced services with reduced latency and 100% uptime to enterprise customers.

Finnish telecom firm Nokia has teamed up with Indian digital infrastructure provider Lightstorm to expand the latter’s optical in India’s eastern and northern regions. The deal involves providing Nokia’s latest WDM optical line system solutions for the network expansion, including consulting and integration services, enabling Lightstorm to deliver enhanced services to its enterprise customers with reduced latency, 100% uptime, and end-to-end control and management capabilities.

Lightstorm has completed the coverage enhancement of its SmartNet long-haul route and is expanding coverage across India using Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) optical transport platform, with an expanded total capacity to multi-terabytes, said the company.

Both the firms stressed that the network upgrade will help Lightstorm meet the increasing demands of its customers and support the Digital India initiative. Nokia’s fifth-generation coherent optic chipset (PSE-V) offers network resiliency in the of multiple fiber cuts and ensures high-capacity, automated, cutting-edge digital services for enterprise customers across India.

Vinish Bawa, Head of Enterprise, Webscale & Emerging , India at Nokia, said the partnership showcases the company’s industry-leading portfolio in optical networking and is integral to the Digital India vision.

Lightstorm Chief Operating Officer Rajiv Nayyar added that the partnership with Nokia would help the company achieve its goals of rapid network route expansion with the benefit of added capacity.
