Aditya Nath Das takes charge as Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary

Senior officer Aditya Nath Das on Thursday took the charge of the of Andhra Pradesh. Das replaces Nilam Sawhney who retired on December 31, 2020.

Before this elevation, Das was serving as the Secretary of Water Resources department. The name of 1987 batch IAS officer as the new Chief Secretary by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government was announced last week.

Sawhney who had extended tenure of six-month has now been appointed as a Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister with immediate effect.

Das is due to retire from service on attaining the age of superannuation on June 30, 2021,.

Das said he will make all efforts to achieve the best outcomes by coordinating with all the departments. “We will work to find solutions to every issue that matters for the of Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

“CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s top priority for the state is completion of Polavaram project and we will strive to fulfill that goal,” the he said.

Sawhney in her new role as Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister will look after health and management, Centre-state relations and bifurcation issues, administrative reforms, including the strengthening of village and ward secretariats, and other institutions at various levels in the districts, reorganisation of districts, land resurvey and titling, according to the state government order.

Sawhney will also take up subjects and projects as allocated by the Chief Minister from time to time, the order said.

The state government also gave posting to 1988 batch IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi as Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development in place of Syamala Rao who now occupies the position of Secretary Water Resources department.

On the other hand, senior IAS officer K. Sunitha has been posted as Social Welfare Secretary.
