Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, a foldable smartphone that opens into a 10-inch display, extending the company’s push into multi-panel form factors as smartphone makers seek new design approaches to differentiate premium devices.
The handset folds twice into the size of a conventional smartphone and uses an inward-folding design intended to protect the main screen. Samsung said the device is aimed at users who want tablet-style productivity in a phone-sized form factor, offering support for multiple apps on the screen at once.
TM Roh, head of Samsung’s Device eXperience division, said the company views the form factor as a next step in the evolution of mobile devices. Without providing the sales forecasts, he said the model is part of Samsung’s long-term strategy to merge portability with larger display capabilities.
The Z TriFold features a 10.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and peak brightness of 1,600 nits. When closed, it operates using a 6.5-inch external display that also supports 120 Hz and up to 2,600 nits. Measuring 3.9 mm at its thinnest point when unfolded, the device weighs 309 grams.
The phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy and is available with either 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage or 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. It includes a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery placed across the three panels, and Samsung claims wired fast charging can reach about 50% in roughly 30 minutes with a 45 W charger. Wireless charging and reverse wireless charging are also supported.
Galaxy Z TriFold features
Rear cameras include a 200-megapixel wide-angle lens with optical stabilisation, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and digital zoom up to 30x. The front cameras include a 10-megapixel selfie lens on the cover screen and a 10-megapixel camera on the main display.
Connectivity options include 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The phone carries an IP48 water-resistance rating and uses a titanium hinge housing with an aluminum frame.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will be released first in South Korea on December 12 before expanding to China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the United States. Samsung said buyers will receive a six-month Google AI Pro trial and one-time 50% display repair discount.
Pricing for the Galaxy Z TriFold has not been disclosed, and Samsung did not provide details on when the model will launch in India. The company is expected to announce pricing during the commercial rollout beginning in South Korea on December 12.
