The Bureau of Energy Efficiency revises its star rating criteria periodically to push manufacturers toward greater energy efficiency. An air conditioner rated 5 stars under the 2026 standards will consume less than one rated 5 stars under older benchmarks. For consumers, this translates to lower monthly electricity bills over the product’s lifetime.

Akai said its NXT range follows what the company calls the Japanese Mottainai philosophy, a concept emphasising minimal waste and maximum efficiency.

Three Models for Different Needs

The Nilgiree series targets price-conscious buyers looking for efficient cooling without premium pricing. Akai positions this as an entry-level option that optimises power consumption while delivering standard cooling performance.

The Kaashmir series offers both cooling and heating functions, allowing year-round use. This makes it suitable for regions that experience cold winters alongside hot summers.

The Siaachen series is designed for extreme heat conditions. According to Akai, these units can continue cooling rooms even when external temperatures reach 55°C, a specification relevant for parts of India that experience severe summer heat.

Features Across the Range

All three models share a common set of features. The Flexi 9 in 1 mode provides nine different cooling settings, allowing users to adjust performance based on room size and preference.

The units include an Ayurvedic filter that Akai claims offers protection against allergens and . A separate PM1 filter captures ultra-fine particulate matter, referring to particles smaller than 1 micrometre in diameter. These are finer than the PM2.5 particles commonly discussed in air quality measurements.

The air conditioners feature Blue Fin technology, a lacquer coating applied to the condenser coils that protects against moisture damage and corrosion. This weatherproofing also helps seal joints against refrigerant gas leaks, the company said.

Additional features include four-way swing for air distribution across the room and a backlit remote control for use in low-light conditions. The units also include frost self-cleaning, a function that removes ice buildup on the evaporator coils automatically.

Pricing and Availability

The NXT range starts at ₹35,490. Prices vary based on tonnage and star rating, with higher capacity and more efficient models priced higher.

Anurag Sharma, Managing Director and CEO of Akai India, said the company’s focus on efficiency has helped reduce costs across production and logistics.

“The NXT version of our flagship range of air conditioners, Nilgiree, Kaashmir and Siaachen, has been designed for the needs of Indian homes,” Sharma said. “Our ACs come with a host of productive features like multiple cooling options, Ayurvedic filter, weatherproof coating and more.”

Akai said it operates more than 1,200 service centres across 28 states, covering over 1,900 pin codes.
