Mumbai — Online learning platform upGrad has appointed Deepesh Dhakad as its chief product and technology officer, effective October 2025.
Dhakad will lead the company’s product, design and technology operations across its learner and enterprise segments, with an emphasis on scaling digital systems and improving user experience.
He brings nearly two decades of experience in product and technology roles across companies such as Amazon, Flipkart, Unacademy and Games24x7. His work has focused on developing consumer technology platforms, managing large cross-functional teams and using data-led and AI-driven approaches to enhance growth and engagement.
Dhakad said technology would play a central role in upGrad’s next phase of expansion. “Our focus will be on designing intelligent, AI-native systems that personalise learner journeys and deliver measurable results for both individuals and enterprises,” he said.
He added that his role would also include enabling teams across product, design and engineering to develop large-scale learning solutions.
Amit Mehta, Chief Human Resources Officer, upGrad, said Dhakad’s appointment comes as the company strengthens its presence in global markets.
“As we expand deeper into global markets, product and technology remain the backbone of how we deliver scale, consistency and measurable outcomes,” Mehta said.
Dhakad is an alumnus of IIIT Allahabad and the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management at IIT Bombay. He will be based in Bengaluru and oversee upGrad’s global product and technology roadmap.
Founded in 2015, upGrad offers online and hybrid programmes across higher education and professional skilling. It partners with universities in India and abroad to deliver diploma, master’s and executive doctorate degrees and provides corporate training and recruitment services.
