JLR partners Tata Communications to enhance vehicle connectivity

The collaboration will integrate Tata Communications' MOVE platform into JLR's next-generation medium-sized SUVs, built on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform and scheduled for release in 2026.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a subsidiary of Tata Motors since 2008, has announced an extended partnership with Tata Communications to enhance connectivity in its upcoming vehicles.

This collaboration will integrate Tata Communications’ MOVE platform into JLR’s next-generation medium-sized SUVs, built on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform and scheduled for release in 2026.

The partnership aims to provide seamless connectivity across more than 120 countries, facilitating real-time vehicle tracking, software updates, and improved driver experiences. JLR stated that the MOVE platform would enable vehicles to effortlessly between , ensuring continuous access to services such as media streaming and advanced driver assistance systems.

Also, the platform is expected to support software-over-the-air (SOTA) updates, potentially reducing maintenance costs and enhancing vehicle diagnostics.

Currently, JLR’s connected vehicle fleet generates approximately 2.5 terabytes of daily, with nearly half a million electronic control units updated monthly. By leveraging Tata Communications’ platform, JLR said it aims to expand its data exchange capabilities, providing engineers with deeper insights into vehicle performance and enabling more efficient updates.

“With the MOVE platform, we are ensuring secure, cost-effective, and continuous connectivity for our customers, beginning with the next generation of vehicles,” said Mark Brogden, JLR’s Director of Digital Product Platform Off-Board.

The move also aligns with the company’s strategy of focusing on sustainability and electrification. JLR has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations by 2039 and plans to introduce electric versions of its Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender models by 2030, with Jaguar becoming an all-electric within the same timeframe.
