State-owned RailTel Corporation of India has secured a Rs 27.38 crore order from the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to establish a -based disaster recovery system, strengthening its presence in the government cloud and IT infrastructure services market.

The contract comes two months after RailTel received a separate Rs 38.59 crore order from CCI for the renewal of cloud data centre hosting services, taking the combined value of the two contracts to nearly Rs 66 crore, excluding taxes.

In a regulatory filing on Monday, RailTel said the latest order involves setting up a dedicated cloud disaster recovery system using backup and replication technologies for hardware and software supporting several applications, including EBS, e-Office, BITS, Cotbiz and Kapas Kisan.

The project is scheduled to be executed by November 30, 2031. The company did not disclose the implementation schedule, technology partners or infrastructure specifications.

The disaster recovery system is intended to ensure that critical applications and their data can be recovered in the event of technical failures, cyber incidents or other disruptions. Such arrangements are particularly relevant for government organisations that increasingly depend on digital platforms for financial transactions, administration and public services.

CCI, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Textiles, is responsible for procuring cotton from farmers under the government’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism when market prices fall below the prescribed support price.

The corporation has been expanding the use of digital platforms to manage procurement, inventory and farmer services. Its Kapas Kisan mobile application, launched in September 2025, allows farmers to register, book procurement slots and track payments.

Another application, the Bale Identification and Traceability System (BITS), is designed to track cotton bales and maintain information about their origin, quality and other characteristics.

According to the Ministry of Textiles, CCI operated a network of around 570 procurement centres across 11 cotton-growing states during the 2025-26 season. The growing use of such digital systems has increased the importance of data availability and continuity in its operations.

For RailTel, the order adds to its portfolio of cloud computing, data centre and managed beyond its traditional telecommunications business.

A Navratna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, RailTel operates a nationwide optical fibre network and two Tier-III certified data centres in Gurugram and Secunderabad. Its cloud platform, RailCloud, is empanelled with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The company provides cloud hosting, data backup, disaster recovery and cybersecurity services to government departments, public sector enterprises and other institutional customers.

RailTel said the latest contract does not involve any related-party transaction and that its promoters have no interest in the entity awarding the order.
