Aadhaar: MeitY’s Pankaj Kumar is now UIDAI CEO

The government has appointed senior IAS officer as the new CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (). Kumar, a 1987-batch IAS officer of Nagaland-cadre is currently additional secretary in the Ministry Of Electronics And IT (MeitY).

The UIDAI is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the on July 12, 2016 by the government under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The UIDAI has the mandate to issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), called Aadhaar, to all residents of India to eliminate duplicate and fake identities.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) said Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has been appointed as CEO, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in the rank and pay of Secretary by temporarily upgrading the post.
