Shell names Vijay Kannan CIO for Global Lubricants

Kannan will also be responsible for leading a team spread across Houston, London, The Hague, Shanghai, and Bengaluru

Global Lubricants, Sectors and Decarbonisation, and Customer at British-Dutch multinational and gas company Shell have announced the of Vijay Kannan as new chief information officer CIO. Kannan was earlier working as General Manager for Shell’s Global Commercial businesses based out of London and will now move back to India to take up the new role.

As the global IT and Digital leader for Shell’s Lubricants, Sectors & Decarbonisation division, Vijay will be responsible for shaping and delivering the IT and digital strategy for both the businesses and enabling an integrated ‘customer back’ approach to understanding and fulfilling the needs of its customers.

Kannan will also be responsible for leading a team spread across Houston, London, The Hague, Shanghai, and Bengaluru. He has also been tasked to build a cohesive portfolio of business capabilities that bring together processes, data, and IT/digital tools that continue to serve the customers of Shell Lubricants, the global leader in Lubricants for 14 years running, and solve complex problems being faced in the energy transition towards a low carbon future.

“Decarbonisation is a top priority for Shell and the society at large and digital can play an important role in unlocking and accelerating the decarbonization pathways,” Vijay Kannan said.

According to Shell, Vijay Kannan carries over 18 years of experience across roles and industries, including the Chemicals/Paints, FMCG, and Energy sectors. He joined Shell in 2018 and has been associated with the company for around 3 years.

Before joining Shell, Vijay was working with Unilever for fourteen years, most recently as CIO – Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Unilever South Asia. Earlier in his career, has played multiple regional and global roles in IT during his time with Asian Paints and Unilever.
