Anand Kumar elevated as Managing Director of STMicroelectronics India

Anand Kumar, a long-time STMicroelectronics executive, has spent over 26 years with the company, most recently serving as Senior Director.

French-Italian chipmaker STMicroelectronics has announced the appointment of Anand Kumar as the new Managing Director for India. He takes charge following the retirement of Vivek Sharma, who concluded a 34-year career with the company.

Kumar, a long-time STMicroelectronics executive, has spent over 26 years with the company, most recently serving as Senior Director. In this capacity, he contributed to the development and execution of technology programmes, customer engagement and operational expansion. His appointment as Managing Director marks a continuation of the company’s transition, with an emphasis on continuity and steady growth.

Based at the company’s headquarters in Greater Noida, Kumar will oversee India operations, including engineering, design, and business development. India has been one of the key centres for STMicroelectronics globally, housing a large talent base and supporting both domestic and international customers in the semiconductor space.

Kumar began his career with STMicroelectronics in 1999 and has since held several roles spanning technical and leadership responsibilities. Over more than two decades, he has been closely associated with the company’s growth in India, which has included expanding R&D capabilities and strengthening local partnerships.

An engineering graduate in and Communication from the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology ( University), Kumar was recognised during his academic years for his project work and distinction-level performance.

His predecessor, Vivek Sharma, had played a central role in building STMicroelectronics’ presence in India and strengthening its research and design footprint. The company acknowledged Sharma’s contributions and said Kumar’s long association with the organisation positions him well to take forward its India strategy.

India continues to be a strategic market for semiconductor companies, with policy support for electronics manufacturing and design. With Kumar at the helm, STMicroelectronics is expected to maintain its focus on talent development, innovation and with industry stakeholders.
