Rajasthan Board of Secondary (RBSE) conducted Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET) – 2018 on Sunday. Over 9.34 lakhs candidates appeared for . The examination was conducted across the state through more than 2600 centres in two shifts. While in the morning shift, level-2 exams was held from 10 am to 12.30 pm, the level-1 exams was held between 2.30 pm and 5 pm.

According to HT, of the 8.04 lakh candidates who registered for the level-1 exams, only 7.43 lakh wrote the exams. In the level-2 exams, more than 1.91 lakh out of the 2.08 lakh registered candidates wrote the exams.

As soon as the first part of the exam began, rumours started doing the rounds that the exam paper along with the answer key had been leaked on social media. Social media was buzzing with information. Some of the students shared the “leaked papers” with local media houses. However, the rumour was refuted by officials who informed that it was an old paper.

“A paper went viral at 9.50 in the morning. When the exam papers were opened at 10 am and matched with the leaked one, it was found that it was an old paper from 2013 and has no connection with this year's paper, said Vasudev Devnani, state education minister.

During REET 2018 exam police have detained two persons in Alwar for using unfair means in the exams. One was using a Bluetooth device during the exams while the other was impersonating a candidate.

To smoothly conduct the exam, the state government had made several arrangement like use of video surveillance camera along with police presence and installation of mobile jammers in exam centres. The official informed that adequate arrangements were made to prevent any kind of imitation through electronic devices including mobile, bluetooth at the examination centres. As many as 10,000 CCTV cameras were installed at the REET examination centers and were constantly monitored at the control room set up at the BSER.

Government had formed District Examination Steering Committees to take care of REET 2018 examination at district level. The conducting the REET was a big challenge considering the incidents of paper leaks during previous exams, but the board overcame the challenge with the help of the state government, education department and police, said Prof BL Choudhary, chairman of BSER.

The REET examination was started in 2016 by Rajasthan government. A successful candidate in this examination will not have to go through interview process for primary and upper primary teachers. They will be directly hired on the basis of REET 2018 score. According to reports, in the first REET exam about 9 lakh candidates had appeared and about 15,000 eligible candidates were called for jobs in different districts. This year too about 10 lakh candidates have applied for 35,000 posts.
