The online application process for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for the year 2019 has started on September 1 and the last date to submit the GATE 2019 application form is September 21. However, the extended closing date for submission of online application will be October 1, 2018. This year, the examination is scheduled to be conducted in two-shifts on February 2, 3 and February 9 and 10, 2019. GATE examination is one of the pre-requisite tests to pursue higher study in engineering. This year, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will conduct the entrance exam across the country. Last year, it was held under the guidance of Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG).
How to apply for GATE 2019?
All the candidates who wish to apply for GATE 2019 need to register themselves at gate.iitm.ac.in. Like previous years, the registration process is being held through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Before starting the application process, the candidates should check the Eligibility Criteria and Application Flow Chart given on the website. To begin the application process they need to click on ‘Click here to apply online' button on the website. This will take them to the registration page where candidates will have to first register with their email ID and password and then they can fill the form. The form asks for details like name, age, qualification, address, examination centre – something similar to all other examination in the country.
GATE 2019 Application Fees
The application fees for the general category is Rs 1,500 while women and other reserved category candidates have to submit an application fee of Rs 750. The candidates of foreign nationals have to submit an application fee of $50.
GATE 2019 Eligibility Criteria and Age Limit
No age limit is prescribed for GATE 2019. Candidates should be graduate or graduating BE, B.Tech, B.Pharmacy, B.Arch, BSc (Research), BS, MA, MSc, MCA, Int MSc or Int BSMS in 2018. If not the above then they should have been completing their Int ME, M.Tech (post BSc) or a dual degree after 10+2 by 2019-20
GATE 2019 pattern
No changes have been made to the pattern of Gate examination except this year, a new paper of Statistics (ST) has been added. Like the previous year, the duration of all the papers of the GATE 2019 will be three hours. There will be 65 questions for a total of 100 marks. As the examination is an online computer based test, after the time is over, the computer will automatically close the screen. The exam consists of two sections. The paper will contain questions on general aptitude (15 marks), engineering mathematics (10-13 marks) and core engineering area of the candidate.
Why GATE 2019 is important?
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission or financial assistance to master's programs and direct doctoral programs in engineering, technology, architecture and doctoral programs in relevant branches of science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other government agencies.
Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MHRD scholarship or assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.
Key facts about GATE 2019
For GATE 2019, IIT Madras is the organizing institute. GATE 2019 will be conducted for 24 subjects. Examination for all the 24 subjects will be conducted as an online computer based test (CBT). The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions will be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) types. The Candidates will use only an on-screen virtual calculator provided for the examination.
As per GATE rules, a candidate can appear only in any one paper of the GATE examination. GATE 2019 examinations will be held during the forenoon and afternoon sessions on February 2, 3 and February 9 and 10, 2019.
The entire process of filling up of the application form and uploading of certificates, documents, is in online mode only. According to GATE 2019 advisory, the candidates should not send any hard copy of application form to IIT Madras or any of the zonal GATE offices.
GATE 2019 Admit Card
The Admit Cards for GATE 2019 would be available only on GOAPS website. Candidates can download their Admit Card from GOAPS website once it is made available. No printed copy of the Admit Cards will be posted to the candidates. Also, no request for any changes in the Centre or Date/Time specified in the Admit Card will be entertained.
